“I love this land Australia, in oh so many ways. Her pristine beaches, clear blue skies and endless sunny days.
But most of all I love the people that
she calls her own. The lucky ones, so fortunate, to call Australia home”.

The Reality In Australia: Plastic Pollution Is An Epidemic

We all love Australia, but sometimes we forget how our actions or inaction can have a negative effect on the environment surrounding us. Australians use around 4 billion plastic bags every year – that’s a whopping 10 million or so each day. Clean Up Australia estimates that around 50 million of these end up in our waterways and ocean. Plastic Bags are only used for minutes on an average, but then take up to 500-1000 years to decompose.

Australia Says No To Single-Use Plastic Bags!

South Australia, Tasmania, the NT and ACT already have successful plastic bag bans in place. Queensland has also committed to banning plastic bags in 2018. New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia are yet to step up and take plastic bags off the menu.

Announcements from the Supermarket Giants Woolworths & Coles confirmed that from July 2018, its customers would need to bring their own bags when they go shopping or purchase re-usable ones in store. The ban also applies to their Group stores. Environmental groups have welcomed the move.

A great step indeed and an overwhelming majority of Australians support this ban on single use plastic bags.

But the question is do we enjoy the same support when it comes to
shelling out hard earned money on purchase of these re-usable bags?
